Real or synthetic gemstones: what's the difference?
Have you ever held a rock in your hand and wondered if it tells a story - or just came from the lab?
Gemstones have something magical. Whether dug deep from the earth or grown in the laboratory, they sparkle with mystery. But how do you know what is real, what is synthetic - and above all: what really suits you?
At Nooo Berlin we believe in the power of authenticity. Our jewelry is minimalist, handmade, conscious and timeless - each piece a silent tribute to true beauty, crafted with care, intention and deep appreciation for nature's treasures. Whether you feel like the shimmer of Labradorite feel drawn or to the calm depth of the black onyx – we accompany you through the world of gemstones, with heart and honesty.

A look back: jewelry is older than you think
Jewelry is one of the oldest forms of self-expression. People wore them thousands of years ago shelln, bones and natural stones - as a sign of protection, status or spirituality. Over time, techniques became more precise, metals were melted, stones were ground and set. But the core remained the same: jewelry tells your story.
Even today, every piece at Nooe Berlin begins with intention. From the design to the final finishing touches, everything is consciously chosen - clear in form, with soul in the details. The metal is shaped, polished, prepared - and then comes the magical moment: the stone is set.
Real vs. synthetic gemstones – what’s the difference?
A real gemstone comes from the earth. It is formed over thousands, sometimes millions of years. Every little irregularity, every inclusion, every reflection of light tells of its wild origins.
A synthetic one Gemstone is bred in the laboratory - with high technology, under controlled conditions. It often looks deceptively similar to the original, but has no geological history.
Both have their value - depending on what is important to you.
At Nooo Berlin We are drawn to originality. To stones that carry energy. Show the traces of time. That seem raw and real.

Our favorites: Labradorite & Black onyx
✧ Labradorite – Stone of Magic & Transformation
If stardust had a color, it would be labradorite. Shimmering surfaces in blue, green and gold are reminiscent of the northern lights.
Origin & History: Discovered in Labrador, Canada – hence the name. It was once believed that it carried the frozen fire of the Aurora Borealis.
Effect: Considered a stone of change. Promotes intuition, protects your aura and opens creative spaces.
Fun fact: Inuit legends say that labradorite fell from the sky - a piece of starlight, very real.
This is how you recognize real labradorite: Each piece shows individual color play, sometimes with small inclusions or unevenness. If it looks too perfect, it's probably glass or labware.
We particularly love using labradorite in rings and pendants - each piece is unique, just like you.
✧ Black Onyx – Stone of Strength & Calm
Deep, dark, clear - black onyx is the silent protector of your soul.
Origin & History: Used in jewelry for over 3,000 years - from Roman cameos to Victorian mourning rings.
Effect: Promotes stability and inner strength. Meant to absorb negative energy and center you.
Fun fact: The myth tells that Cupid cut Venus's fingernails - and the pieces became onyx. (Drama has always been part of history.)
This is how you recognize real onyx: Natural onyx is deep black, sometimes with fine lines or white veins. Laboratory onyx often appears flawlessly smooth and very even.
We love the contrast of black onyx with cool silver - for anyone looking for classic elegance with a clean edge.
Real or synthetic – which suits you?
Honestly, there is no “better”. It depends on what calls you.
Do you want a stone that has grown deep in the earth – with little “flaws” and lots of character?
Or are you drawn to a clear, sustainable stone from the laboratory?
At Nooo Berlin We work with real gemstones whenever possible - because we believe in their energy. The small cracks, the shine, the play with the light – all of that tells something.
If you are unsure: just ask us. We would be happy to help you find the stone that suits you – in mood, style and attitude.
